Cleaning out the Cobwebs 3/30/2006 5:40:29 AM
It's that time of year (lalalalala)--clearing throat. Yes, yes, I know. Don't remind you. Spring cleaning, that absolutely wonnerful time when we get rid of the old, useless baggage that we keep putting aside for "when we might need it."
This year because of our move to the coast, I don't have to. (Looking around at the boxes that still haven't been unpacked) Blink.
I have decided to clean out the cobwebs in the attic. You know, not the one attached to the house but the one attached to my neck. That big bulbous thing that all of our parents at one time or another told us to use.
It dawned on me the other day, when we were out to dinner and a group of people were celebrating this gentleman's 50th birthday. Yup, 50th birthday.
Well, as bright and quick as I am at times, I looked at my husband with a stunned expression and said. "Oh my stars! You're going to be 50 this year!"
He laughed and replied, "Yes, dear. And you aren't far behind."
What? Wait! I'm only 17 with 31 years experience. There is no way I'm turning 50 next year, right? Blink.
So, the last few days, here I am looking in the mirror. The insecurites and vanities laughing at me, mocking me...and that's when I decided to clean out the cobwebs.
All the silly little things that have rolled around up there that are useless baggage. I'm getting rid of the heavy loads that aren't worth bearing or old stories that need to be thrown in the trash. I'm going upstairs and I'm getting rid of things that I've kept for so long that are no longer needed.
And it feels good.
