My yard is talking to me

Really, it is ... honest.
Half my garden is growing and the other half is laying there shriveling like an abused plant. I love working in the yard, getting my fingers dirty, working with the earth. My yard is yelling at me! My veggie garden and herb plants are not happy little campers. Obviously, I need to move them around, but where, oh, where should my seedlings go?
I believe I was spoiled, got lazy. My old yard grew all my plants into healthy, thriving plants that made me the envy of the neighborhood. Here in the new yard. UGH. I should have known, thunking myself on the head, if the previous owners let the house go, they wouldn't have done much with the yard, right?
So, here today I shall go to the nearest store and buy some -- oh no, cringe -- fertilizer and top soil. Ow, ow ow, did I say that? Until next year when my natural compost has had time to do it's thing.
Until then, my plants will keep yelling at me until I listen and they will tell me where they want to grow.
