The fires here are frightening. Since we have moved to the coast where the population is dwarfed by the cows and horses -- we have been surrounded by them. They seem to heckle us with their sharp, deadly, fingers ... threatening to come closer every night.
Yes, it has rained -some- but most people don't understand that when a fire is that big, that hot, the rain doesn't put the fire out. It deters it, it slows it down, it may even get rid of many of the flames. It doesn't stop the muck or embers from burning.
Someone asked me why we were having so many fires here. Well, we had 4 hurricanes come in one year and we had a couple more last year. Thousands and thousands of countless acres where trees fell, unreachable properties that nature left to fend for itself. All those downed trees have dried out and are now just waiting to be recycled by nature. Mother Nature is taking care of her land by cleaning house. Just not exactly in the same way we clean house. She's having her own personal bonfire. Spring cleaning at its fiercest. Hopefully, she will be done soon. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that when Mother Nature decides to wash out the burned embers, she doesn't give us anymore category 3's.
