Hearing the news about “flu season”, “tornado season” or an epidemic you either take it into your mind as fact – buying into it – or you look at it and give no credence to what you heard. So when government officials and health care professionals announce the start of “flu season”, you show you bought into it when you walk into your corner pharmacy, your doctor’s office or the free clinic for your “flu shot”. Or you protest being told what to do about your body. Being cautioned about airborne viruses or bacteria, you take whatever steps the authorities prescribed showing you had successfully programmed this concept into your consciousness. By actions like these, you perpetuate a lifestyle of powerlessness, letting the news drive your decisions.
Thinking about something I learned from Neville, I decided to handle news about various devastating seasons differently. Neville taught this: if you do not control the drama of your life, someone else will. When any institutional authority requires you to take any action, especially actions based on fear, that authority it trying to control the drama of your life. I give especial credit to Hawkins, Dispenza, Lipton, and Goswami for concepts they developed and research they reported on the role of brain chemistry and body sensation on health and wellness. I found it extremely refreshing to see the impact of thought on brain chemistry and body sensation. Further I credit Neville for teaching imaginal activity as the means by which to create inner life experiences that “harden into fact” – physical or tangible reality. I used this information to control the drama of my life.
Not only was it fun, it was repeatedly effective to apply Hawkins' range of emotional expression and adapt Dispenza’s emphasis on elevated emotions to develop strategies for handling any news that came to my attention. It was very easy to consider the link between thought and brain-body chemistry as Lipton and Dispenza presented. Seeing the impact of toxic and pleasure producing chemicals – mainly how I released these in my brain and body, I became increasingly attentive to my thinking and reactions. Finding negative thinking and reactions cause cells to produce toxic chemicals that result in sickness and disease and constructive thinking with elevated emotions cause cells to produce pleasure producing chemicals that cause cells to build, repair and restore each other, my subsequent actions became a “no-brainer”. I used the news I heard, even the announcements of actions the authorities required to trigger my focus in the elevated emotions.
I adapted my thinking to consider all things as being concepts and experimented with concepts using imaginal processes. I had already bought into consciousness as containing all the concepts that exist at any point in time and space – that includes past, present and future and every point in the known and unknown universes. Through imaginal activity I found I could call the name of a concept and see its image play out in my mind's eye. I was so delighted to find any image could take on the characteristics of a person – in other words, I held two-way conversations in my mind with images as part of my inner life experiences.
I observed how quickly the experiences of my inner life and conversations showed up in the actions and conditions of people in my daily life. But more impressive were changes I saw in the people around me and myself, for example, when I filled the atmosphere of my home with the energy of love and appreciation, being aware of how Hawkins made distinctions in the values of love and pain. One expression of love offsets 750 thousand expressions of pain. I found I could easily use imaginal activity to offset the impact of news I heard.
