Gambling at the Dog Track 3/13/2007 4:31:40 AM
There aren’t many places to gamble in Alabama and we have to take our butts to Biloxi, Ms. for a variety of casinos. Alabama doesn’t have the lottery; there are very few places that can have bingo; and the only casinos are a couple on reservations. Hopefully, that will change. But I went to the greyhound dog track in Macon County, this past weekend for dinner, actually.
If you eat there, don’t get the Filet Mignon. I expected a nice, tender piece of beef with the bacon strip wrapped around it. I even ordered it Medium-Rare. What I got was a cold, dried out piece of meat (maybe it was beef), a little tough and tasting like an overcooked chunk of roast.
I ordered water, six times! From two people! And then, my husband went to the snack bar and got me a bottle of water once I had finished eaten. The dinner check came along with a pitcher of water. We gave the pitcher to the people at the next table since they were waiting for quite awhile for their menu. If they were smart they would have taken our information and run.
No, I didn’t win any money. Those dogs sucked forty dollars out of me. So I went into the casino and lost some more. Expensive hobby, I may be living on the streets when they finish building the casino twenty miles down the road from me.
So, did you waste some money today or have a bad meal?
