Do we get caught up in the Window Dressing? Have A Cup Of Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got
together to visit their old university professor. The conversation
soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen
and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of
cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking,
some expensive, and some exquisite - telling them to help themselves
to the coffee.
After all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor
said:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken
up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but
normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the
source of your problems and stress.
“Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In
most cases, it’s just more expensive and in some cases even hides
what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the
cup, but you consciously went for the best cups…and then
began eyeing each other's cups.
“Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and
position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold
and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define
nor change the quality of life we live. Sometimes, by
concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God
has provided us."
God brews the coffee, not the cups . . . enjoy your coffee.
This came to me through the Mountain Wings mailing. It set off a whole chain of thought.
How caught up are we all in the Window Dressing? How often do we miss the point
of life in the rush to be the boss, leader, guru, teacher, etc.?
Someone recently said to me that the more they teach, the more they learn. The mark of a good teacher
is to learn from the student. This came from someone who could be considered to be in their 'golden years'
who chooses to see new adventures every day.
Each day we are gifted the time and a fresh page of our book of life. We do the writing by our
life experiences and how we handle them for our own spirituality. Each spiritual page contains
the opportunities of good, peace, joy, happiness, etc. It also contains the potential to be
filled with our discomforts and diseases. We can choose with our light and love.
When the great statesman and leader, Moses, died, he was alone and his body was never found to
honour or bury. His simple, little, wooden flute was found. To honour Moses his followers covered
his simple flute with jewels. There was only one problem - The flute could no longer be played
and was now silent.
We have opportunities to write our life. How are we going to choose to do this - as the cup made
of porcelaine and glazed or as the inner substence of love and light?
