What folks won’t do…
CNN reports today that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reconciled for the sake of their Simple Life television show fans.
Whew!
I was really worried about that.
With North Korea threatening to fire a nuclear missile, the Congressional Page scandal on Capitol Hill, the DOW reaching record highs, and a new push to quell school violence (in the wake of the killings at the Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster, Pennsylvania), I am most grateful that all is well with Paris and Nicole.
I can’t wait to watch the first episode of the new season…
NOT.
These two rich kids are starting to get on my nerves. I’m bored to death of their sound bites, video clips and Simple Life antics.
It’s not that I don’t think they have talent. They do. It’s just that I think they are OVEREXPOSED--Paris and her pooch. Nicole and her fiancé. Paris arrested on drunk driving charges. Nicole in her Dad’s video.
Sigh.
Do rich kids really have anything productive to do with their time?
In all fairness, how can they know that most of us have had enough? They’re probably listening to some agent and/or manager, who’s telling them ‘they love you—do this, do that--you’re hot’. They probably think that it’s a good thing to stay in our faces, not only for their wallets, but also for career longevity.
And, there’s nothing wrong with that. All of these so-called celeb reality shows follow the same format—attempting to get us to watch via shock value or overexposure.
For example, I had an opportunity to watch a few episodes of VH1’s Flavor of Love this season. After being absolutely disgusted by one contestant’s defecation in Flavor Flav’s foyer, watching another almost get thrown over a balcony in a girl-brawl, and the antics of a third’s neurotic mother, I lost interest.
I didn’t get bored because the contestants’ ascent to become the girlfriend of this former pimp/rapper wasn’t interesting. Most of them were talented and intelligent. Their competitive antics were amusing, stupid and innocently insulting to anyone with an IQ over 80.
I got bored because it was too staged. It was clear to me that the women had been coached to spew inflammatory remarks and behave like total brats to keep the ratings up.
And that’s what I mean about the Nicole/Paris reconciliation.
Maybe at one time we cared that they were friends. Maybe after that, we cared that they broke up. Still, even I could have predicted that they’d make up again, because there are millions of dollars to be made by their continuation of The Simple Life.
Yawn.
Here’s an idea--let Nicole and Paris compete for Flavor Flav…Let me stop here, because it’s likely to come true.
