Ok. I’m through.

Ok. I’m through.

I’m convinced that singer George Michael has lost his marbles.

Truly.

I read an article today about his recent appearance on a television show in Spain. Marijuana consumption is legal there, and he took the opportunity to smoke a ‘joint’ (marijuana cigarette) on the show.

He is quoted as saying, “"This stuff keeps me sane and happy."

Poor, misguided George Michael.

It wasn’t enough that his fans felt empathy for him in his skirmishes with police for the past 10 years or so now. And, it doesn’t matter that we were delighted, after his bad breakup with Sony, that he was given another chance to record—to reclaim his fan base.

It’s not even enough that we listened to his tales of how difficult it was to accept his homosexuality, and how he grieved after his mother’s death.

Now he has to blow marijuana smoke in our faces.

Well, George Michael, as a fan from the Wham days, and a mother, I’ve had enough. I’m no longer a fan.

You’ll have to win me over again, despite your talent. Because unlike Spain, in my country, marijuana possession and usage is illegal. And I do care about setting an example for my child. I don’t want to knowingly support a drug user, or to give him the impression that he will ever need marijuana to give him mental stability or joy.

It doesn’t mean that I don’t care about you as a human being. I do, and I realize that whatever you do behind closed doors is your business.

But, when you blow it in my face, and offend me, I do have the option to spend my time and money elsewhere.

And that’s just what I intend to you.

You can take your ‘Careless Whispers’ of marijuana smoke, along with your ‘Faith’ in its ability to keep you sane and happy, and go. I choose ‘Freedom’.
