My teens went back to school today for the last term of the year.
As a writer I do not always look forward to the school holidays because it means I am on ‘parent duty’ all day every day, and I don’t get the uninterrupted time to write. But, this time I came up with a game plan: use the holidays to think up article ideas, so that by the time the teens go back to school I can sit down and just reel them off.
It worked too. I have emailed two articles today. I thought about them quite a bit, and started writing them over the weekend. Today I added to and polished them and sent them off. (I sincerely need to earn money!)
There was no reason I had to give up two weeks and then come back to work ‘cold’.
Sometimes we have to look around us for inspiration and ideas, and often they can come through watching other people interact and through listening to their complaints and decideing if there might be a better way. That ‘way’ becomes an article idea.
Life is full of opportunities, be it to write, or to improve ourselves. Instead of looking for something to complain about, decide if the issue is really that important, and if it is, find a way to handle it, peacefully. There is always a better way, but you have to take the time to think about it and look for it. Writers do that all the time…the only problem is that we often write about it instead of doing it. Yeah, I know: we’re all words!
