It is time for our annual vacation back in New Zealand.
We will depart Singapore's heat and humidity and arrive in New Zealand's winter chill. The pores will seize shut in horror, but at least the sweat will stop!
I always thought living in a tropical country would be heavenly. Yet I miss the changing seasons of Christchurch, New Zealand, I miss the scenery, the ease of communication, I miss driving my own car instead of relying on buses, trains and taxis. I miss family and friends.
When it is cold you can pull on a warm jersey or jacket. But when it is hot, what can you do? Even cooking naked in the kitchen one would still sweat.
Until I left New Zealand I did not understand the bond a person can have with their country. When the plane touches down I feel a sense of physical relief, and I know that I am home.
