Looking Beyond 7/17/2005 7:37:52 AM
Learning to look beyond the veil of the physical permits you to find a place of peace and serenity. It's been a while since I've been able to spend some time writing. This past several years has been especially trying due to physical limitations from a neuromuscular condition. But at the present time I seem to be able to begin again where I left off and will I hope be able to give to others some wisdom given to me by my teachers and mentors.
Life has its many twists and turns especially when you least expect it. When we were young it seemed like the world was our canvas just waiting for our genius to provide it with color and vibrance. As we become older it seems like the colors begin to fade and that vibrance that once covered our way dims and becomes shaded. Such change occurs when one forgets to look beyond the canvas and see the gifts so often overlooked in our jeal to become more.
Our society leads us on the path of more and forgets to teach us that more is less and drive in its fullest form prevents us from achieving that peace that we all seek deep within our being. Our society thrives on more work, more things, and more worry. It prevents us from seeing beyond all the fuss and bother to the quiet peace that underlies and forms the foundation of our soul. We rush forward without the understanding that most children have, that is, being - just being is the essence of life.
When was the last time you took the time to just be? I mean really stopping the whirling world around you and sit still for a time until you can feel the peace that is beyond our present world. I ask my friends this question and I always get a blank look back. They are confused by the simple concept of letting go of this world and listening to the murmurs of their souls. They usually say they take vacations regularly but I interrupt and say no when was the last time you took the time to just be. Their faces become saddened as they for the first time realize what they had hidden beneath the hubbub of their lives.
As a first step in looking beyond I would encourage you to practice being - simply being. Take a time each day where you can let go of this world and feel the presence of the peace that is found beneath the veil of the present moment and beyond the physical world. It is there that you will discover a way of living that will change your life forever.
