Setting Things in Motion 7/24/2005 10:38:54 AM
My wife and I went out to lunch yesterday with a dear friend and his wife. It was a wonderful meal with good company and great conversation and laughs. Toward the end our conversation moved to the discussion of change and how to go about making major changes in your life and life patterns.
During the discussion I could hear a thread of words like can't, shouldn't, I don't know, can't afford to do that, where do I get the time. Each word or phrase caused a negative set of emotions to pass between all of us. The conversation couldn't proceed when doubts and fears stood in the way of making what appeared to be a major decision.
It seemed impossible to make changes when every thought made had a reason for failure or a level of impossibility. I waited for my opportunity to speak and then approached the question from another angle. I asked him if he ever thought of making a life plan. The atmosphere changed immediately. I explained to him what a life plan was and how to use that plan to achieve his desires in life. During that discussion he and his wife identified what they really wanted to do with the rest of their lives. Something totally different from their present position. It was then that a look of possibility came on their faces.
I asked him several questions. "What if you devised a plan to start where you are and move in the direction of your dream?" I said. "What if you realized that once you set your plan in action you have already accomplished your goal? What if you made one step each day toward your desire? What would be the result?" He thought for a moment and a smile came on his face. He realized that once he made a decision to commit to a new direction and made a plan to move into that direction he would be able to make the changes he wanted and achieve his heart's desire.
Why is it so hard for our society to see possibility as a way of life? Why are we intrigued by negativity and despair? How do we change our way of thinking so that we can begin to change ourselves and in turn all we meet? The answer to this question is simple. Commit yourself to the desire of your heart and continually without fear or intimidation make the moves necessary to accomplish that desire. That is the answer to personal, societal, and international pessimism.
Our time of living is one in which great things can begin. We can change our attitude toward each other and begin to see a world at peace. We can remove the hatred that is rampant and replace it with understanding. We can improve the plight of the poor and use our lives to spread prosperity. All that is needed is the intent to make it so and then following through with that intent.
Take a moment to find out what you heart's desire is. Take a moment to make the intention to create that desire in your life. Take whatever steps you need to take in order to clear the way for this desire to be manifested. Then, watch your world change. Begin now to make it happen.
