How well do you listen, really listen , to those you contact in life. Today I'm excited about writing this blog. It's been a while since I have been able to write so doing so is both freeing and uplifting. I decided to start this blog in order to see if other like minded individuals were out there who feel that compassion for others has lost its favor in this fast moving world.
After being a practicing surgeon for over 30 years I watched the eroding of patient care occur in horror since my professional career was dedicated to caring for others. What ever happened to spending time with patients to understand their plight? What ever happened to helping someone with a terminal illness or an acute illness understand how their disease process not only affects them but all around them? I wonder how many of you would like to join me in beginning the process of changing the rushed world to a new paradigm of caring and letting others know they are important?
I write this after spending two years in the process of understanding my own underlying disease processes and in seeing first hand how callous and uncaring some of the world can be. Friends became strangers and those I felt I could count on disappeared from my life. The good news is that others who I never thought would be there stood by me and held my hand. There are many good people in this world. I would ask to be sent their stories so that I could share them with others.
