I took the weekend off. Not the whole weekend, just the three hours I spent visiting my parents and doing my laundry. It felt like a vacation to be away from the computer and talking with real people.
Then it was back to work, and back into cyber space. I’m a knowledge freak. I love to learn, and that has helped in doing research for my books. My biggest problem on the internet is that I am so easily distracted. Yesterday I wanted to find out how many pounds there are in a kilo. I ended up reading about how huge the flow of heroin is from Afghanistan and how their drugs and the drugs from Columbia and Mexico make their way into and around this country. That really was much more than I wanted to know, but, hey, maybe I’ll put it in a book.
That’s another benefit of being a writer. Every inane piece of information, or unusual person you run into, becomes potential grist for the idea mill. Suddenly, no experience in your life is a waste of time (except maybe marketing), and no person you meet can be judged unimportant or unnecessary. That might be why creative types tend to be more liberal.
I think that’s a good thought to start the week, which is what I better do. Oh, by the way, 2.2 pounds equals a kilo.
