Screenplay coming!! My brother and I have been working on turning The Scent Of Magic into a screenplay. It has been an interesting process since I now have to look at the book through different eyes-figuring what is necessary for a visual experience as opposed to a reading experience. Some scenes have been shortened, some eliminated, others recombined into one larger scene, and there have even been a few scenes that were only backstory in the novel. We hope to have the screenplay finished sometime in the Spring of 2006, then we will begin the process of finding the right place for it, where it can be brought to life.
An added benefit for me personally has been the chance to re-establish a relationship that had suffered a bit over the years. My dad's death in April gave my brother Eric and I the chance to right things and it is like when we were kids again. For that alone, whether the book ever makes it to the screen or not, the process has been worth every second we've spent on it.
