Book Four Complete 3/27/2005 4:49:12 AM
Book Four is finally finished, and now the editing begins. This one is much longer than any of the others, and after editing, I think will be somewhere between 500 and 600 pages. Still haven't found the title that fits it. This one is a bit more graphic, and incorporates more adult themes into it. The future books in this series will continue this, as it was my intention to write an adult fantasy from the very beginning, one that had more bite to it than the "Harry Potter" books and most others in this genre. Not that those are bad books-just not quite the direction I was looking to go. I was trying to create a world with characters who didn't act like they were cardboard cutouts, but had real personalities. And, like the real world, I wanted one where everything isn't black and white all the time, but mostly shades of gray. I think I've done that, and the people who have spoken to me about the book always comment on how they were drawn into the characters.
I reissued The Scent Of Magic (#1), with a new cover. The cover is fantastic, and I'll be cranking up the PR for that one while I'm working on the edits for #4. Some of the people who bought the original have indicated they might want a new one as well. What I am really looking for is for them to tell others about it and get some word of mouth going. I've sold about 140 or 150 of the first title-if I could get all of those people to tell five people and all of those to tell five and all of those...it wouldn't take long to get the sales up where I would like them. I know this series would be a big seller once I get the manuscript out of the slush pile and into an editor's hands. I may start sending copies of the book to agents and see if that might spark interest in having someone take it on.
