I Wish

I wish I could one day write something cheerful here

I wish that people wouldn’t be so rude and insensitive…

I have had 26 children in the last year. Only 15 of them are left.

I am not expecting to be a best friend or to keep in touch with them forever but DAMN some people.

I am not expecting a gift, just a goodbye.

Twelve months…twelve months with so many different emotions expressed; theirs, mine, ours.

Those children have spent more of their waking hours in my class than with their parents.

One by one, they drop out, no good-byes, no nothing. I am so heartbroken. I’ve grown to love them, and want to take them in my arms for hugs kisses, thanks and well wishes, but I don’t get to.

Back in June, only one child’s mom told me that she wouldn’t be back for the summer, so I cried a bit, got hugged and kissed. I came in this Monday from vacation and I found out that another child would be gone as of that Thursday, so I did get a hug from him.

The children move from one (baby) building to another (big kid) building right next door, and their moms ask administration if they could be in my class. They stand and talk with me in the morning, and are so friendly, and cooperative with me when I write requesting a certain supply (shoebox, empty margarine containers, magazines, newspapers etc), for a class project, but not with their child’s social and academic skills.

I’m hurt. So, so hurt, tears come to my eyes, I miss them so much. I just want to feel their little arms tight around my necks and their little lips on my cheeks.

I feel so bad, that I’m thinking of writing a note to the parents of those left asking them to please say goodbye. Or, I think I will kiss and hug them all each day before I leave… just in case…Oh how the tears flow, I’m not gonna correct or spell check on this one.
