“I’m going to protect you from the terrorists in Tikrit and the homos in Hollywood,” - James Carville, Democratic Strategist, Speaking of President George Bush.
“The Homos in Hollywood.” I almost spit my non-fat mocha all over my monitor when I read that. That seems offensive to me. Can you imagine the reaction if such a statement came from Karl Rove or another Republican insider? All hell would break loose. Headlines would twist the context. Bells and whistles would wake the dead and every special interest group from here to Sausalito would scream foul play. Perhaps Mr. Carville needs to break more than an egg on his head, as he had done on “Meet the Press” after the recent election to signify that his prediction of a Kerry win has caused him to have egg all over his face. I think his problems are much more deep rooted than egg on the face. Of course, coming from the mouth of a Democratic pit bull like Carville, there is no reaction at all. Did I call him a pit bull? Yes, but don’t worry, he is called that all the time by Democrats. Back to the statement. “The Homos in Hollywood.“ I am offended. No, I am not a gay rights activist. I am simply an American who thinks it wrong to use such a pejorative term, even in jest. Using the derogatory term “homo” is out of line in my sweet, humble opinion. Ok, so I’m not sweet. Of course, in Mr. Carville’s mind, the subject of the pejorative was not those of the gay community, but President Bush, which makes the entire statement acceptable in the eyes of tolerant left.
