Where's the common sense in the GOP?

A Minnesota state legislator got up the other day and introduced his friend whom he insisted had “experimented” with the gay lifestyle for ten years, then rejected it, got married and had three kids with his wife. This was intended to be proof that the “gay gene” did not exist. Excuse my language, but where in the hell does the Republican party keep its common sense?
I taught with a gay man who had been married and had two kids with his wife before he realized he was gay. Apparently Michelle Bachmann husband prefers a sham marriage to a more normal lifestyle. Most people have heard the recording of Marcus Bachmann giving some kind of speech that was played on “The Daily Show.” Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart were in stitches over Marcus’s effeminate intonations. His wife is one of the most conservative congresswomen in the House. Somehow they managed to produce five children. Heck, even Michael Jackson had three. Even funnier yet, was Michelle’s pronunciation when asked about her 23 foster children, all of them girls. I can’t give you a direct quote, but she said something like “Marcus would be the last person to worry about.”
Here’s another instance of boneheadism insisted upon by the GOP. The Keystone Pipeline will bring oil from the tar sands in Canada all the way to Texas (so the Kochs can charge even more for it than they already are). This is the dirtiest kind of crude you can get. But the bonehead faction claims there’s no such thing as greenhouse gases. Well, here’s a statistic for you that ought to be a bit bothersome. The Penguin population in the Antarctic is down 90%. Penguins eat krill and its too warm down there these days for it to grow. Scientists are now saying that it’s warmer now than it’s been since the last ice age and it keeps on getting hotter, along with really strange weather patterns caused by all that water vapor (and soot) in the atmosphere.
I can’t go away without mentioning the drones. George W. Bush was fine with using drones against the enemy. The boneheads got their undies in a knot over the targeting of a former America who was running the Al Qaeda faction in Yemen. They’re worried the democrats are going to pull another Ruby Ridge on their militia buddies (Anybody with a gun is a friend of the GOP). This from a party that passed the Patriot Act and sent the National Guard (supposed to be homeland defense) to fight their unnecessary war in Iraq.
George Will has also been at it again. I don’t remember a news story about George falling down a flight of stairs and suffering brain damage, but his recent columns sure sound like that’s what happened. This column was about Judge Robert Bork who wrote a book just before he died. The Book discusses Watergate and the infamous Saturday Night massacre when Eliot Richardson resigned when asked to fire the special prosecutor. Will portrays Bork as some kind of hero for taking the job of Attorney General. Well, nobody is more conservative than Antonin Scalia who somehow got confirmed with very little opposition, but Judge Bork made everybody in the democratic party throw up. The Republican party still hasn’t forgiven the democrats for refusing to confirm that dinosaur. He’s the one who came up with the judicial philosophy of originalism (And I‘ve been blaming it on Scalia). In short originalism asks the question, “What was the founders intention on a constitutional question?”. Pure boneheadism. This is not 1787. Even Thomas Jefferson admitted that it was a different world forty years after he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote this in 1816, eight years after he left the White House (Coincidentally, he okayed the purchase of Louisiana while in office, definitely not a presidential privilege according to the constitution).
