Legalization of the morning after pill is a whole lot better idea than abortion.
A federal judge recently mandated over-the-counter sale of Plan B or the Morning After Pill. An immediate conservative response was that it would encourage children as young as eleven or twelve to have sex. Bushwa! Girls that young have more to fear from relatives and their mothers’ boyfriends, and that’s why we need Plan B. Give the poor kid a chance to lead a normal life. Plan B is also a lot less painful and psychologically better than abortion. And we won’t have crazy zealots blowing up abortion clinics and murdering doctors in church.
The big fear among Republicans (might as well just call them by the same name) is that widespread use of Plan B will end the abortion debate once and for all. These pills cost at least forty dollars a piece, which will put a damper on indiscriminate sex if that‘s even a problem. What Americans ought to know is that Flat Earth Society members also oppose the use of contraceptives, the pill etc. Pope John Paul II was willing to sacrifice millions of African lives to A.I.D.S. rather than allow them the use of condoms. To be fair, Benedict tweaked that a bit to allow male prostitutes their use. Well, La de da! Conservatives often refer to abortionists as murderers, but what about the pre teen who becomes pregnant and has no recourse than to have the baby? What kind of life is she going to live? What kind of life is the baby going to have if the mother doesn’t have any sort of parental support? Fifty percent of American pregnancies are unplanned. How many children and young adults are clinically depressed because they weren’t wanted? Plan B prevents pregnancy from happening in the first place. It takes several days for a sperm to establish contact with an egg. This is hardly murder. Millions of sperm are released during male ejaculation. Most of them die anyway. Most female eggs are not impregnated. What we have here is a segment of our population trying to impose their values on the rest of us. Believe me, the Republican party leaders could care less as long as they have a wedge issue to use in their political campaigns. That’s why they’re so insistent background checks violate the second amendment. They know that 35% of Americans own guns and most of them have more than one. I’m sure most readers are familiar with the mantra “Guns don’t kill people, people do.” Who really believes that? “Hammers don’t build houses, carpenters do.” But let’s see that carpenter build a house without one. It’s a whole lot easier to kill your recalcitrant wife if you’ve got a gun. She can’t run away. Count the crosses the Newtown parents have put up during their demonstration in Washington D.C. Over 3,000 people have died from gun violence since the Newtown atrocity.
Back to Plan B. Politicians need to stop trying to legislate morality. Ir worked so well with Prohibition, didn’t it? Young boys and girls are going to have sex. It’s normal. If it wasn’t, none of us would be here. Why try to make it dirty? Take a look at the Kama Sutra. The Hindus who wrote that did not have a problem with sex. Maybe Americans have a hang-up; they used to have a reason when the pill wasn’t available. Now it’s just pie-in-the-sky rhetoric. I mean a conservatives solution is abstinence. That worked so well for vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her daughter. And we do have a population problem. A billion people in India; a billion six in China. At least China is trying to do something about it with its one child policy. Conservatives would have Americans have as many children as they possibly can. They’re worried the Spanish and other minorities are going to make angry old white men irrelevant. There are over seven billion people in the world and counting. And they make a big mess. I’m not saying kill them off, just be more responsible about having children. Eventually Mother Nature is going to say, “Enough already!” Actually she already has, probably more than once. The Bubonic plague killed as many as a third of the European population during the Middle Ages, and who knows about Africa and China. And antibiotics are having less effect because of overuse. Conservatives won’t even agree to a carbon tax to stop some of the pollution. It should be obvious who they’re beholding to. All their talk about patriotism should be laughable, considering they work for International companies whose only consideration is the bottom line.
