Atop my Hill 6/15/2014 11:13:57 AM
The weather man said it would rain
and
rain it did, rain and rain and rain. We began to wonder if it would ever stop. Who has riled Thor, crashes to thunder, streaks of lightning and buckets and buckets, walls and curtains of rain came pouring, crashing and splashing down.
I peeked out the front door to see if we had any late night activity at the pans of dog food. Raccoons, blissfully ignoring the hullabaloo munched the kibble.
The hand tall toddlers splashed in the wading pool with pounces and bounces and wrestling, and porpoise floats.
Peering through the wall of water toward the pasture I could see our fence, the highway and the fence enclosing the Cherokee head right pasture belonging to the neighbor.
Measuring a square mile, and holding the dwellings of the neighbor and his two adult children, the pasture was obscured in the rain.
And still it rained. Once again we remarked our pleasure that we live atop our hill, and not at the foot.
At last the rain moved on, thunder quieted and lightning could be seen over to the East.
Mama Raccoons gathered their offspring and wandered off to their daytime lairs.
Ponds are full, ground is soggy, all in all this is a good way to begin the summer.
