Letting go 8/11/2008 3:53:37 AM
Someone I love is making choices that may bring heartache... What do we do when someone we love is, we believe, taking steps down a path in life that may lead them over the edge of a dangerous precipice?
I know what I want to do. I want to scream and yell and wave my arms--go back! Don't take that path! I want to seize control, as far as I am able, and place as many obstacles in the path as possible. Heck, I'll use all my strength to roll huge boulders down the mountain to block her way. Oh, yes, I can really get into that!
But there is no peace in that. No calm assurance that the One who works all things for the good of those who love him (as she does) has the situation under control. I have to fix it--and I can't.
This is codependency. It is killing me.
"Let go and let God" I have counseled others. And now, I have to let go. Let God do his work in the heart of his child without my "help". Oh, it is hard. But it is right.
Okay, God. You are the One who moves mountains. I will trust her to you and move into Your peace.
I am letting go because I know you won't. You will hold her where ever she goes and you will never let her go.
