just a periodic update on my quiet Hawaiian life
The forever process of sorting out my life continues -- still selling off stuff on Amazon Marketplace and eBay. Donating lots of stuff to the local HIV foundation's annual rummage sale in July. Sending big chunks of my zine archives to the Center for Sex and Culture in SF. Doing lots of reading. Saving money because (contrary to popular belief) it's actually quite inexpensive to live here unless you go out a lot or buy a lot of things.
The views of the jungle here are lovely. The air is among the purest in the world. All kinds of birds chirping all day; very loud tree frogs (an accidental import from the Caribbean) chirping all night. I'm practicing music, slowly putting together my home music studio and wondering how I am ever going to record anything that doesn't have the sound of birds or frogs in the background. Not a lot of other wildlife here, despite the fact that we're plunked down right in the middle of the jungle. Mongoose ... rats ... both imports ... Hawaii just doesn't have rabbits or deer or anything bigger than a mongoose. There are big poisonous toads that the dogs like to harass, but if they bite the toads, either they die or they get addicted to the secretions and become poison-crazed, toad-licking fools.
