Finding Your Own Writing Style! 10/27/2012 9:47:12 PM
Discovering your own style of writing. Taken from my daily blog on my web site. janetfearsauthor.com
Now lets talk about your writing style. You may be asking yourself what I'm talking about. What style? You're just a writer who likes to write for enjoyment, and hopelly for a little profit too.. So what's this thing called style anyway, and is it all that important?
"Style is the instinctive way each author uses the language, which reflects his or her background, personality, education, philosophy, and lifetime reading habits. It is not something you add to your prose; it's an organic element that continues to evolve every time you write"
In other words style is your unique way of saying something on the written page in a way that no one else can say it, based on all of the above statements. Style is the one way people can get to know you through your writing. I am sure you can hear a authors name and immediately know the type of books they write. You know their style, and as you continue to write and get published, your readers will come to know your style too. It will be as transparent as a shining glass in a window. Style is the way an author uses words (dictation), and how he arranges them in a sentence (syntax ) and then putting those sentences together into paragraphs to achieve an specific effect for the reader. But first you must come to know your own style which will develope more clearly as you continue to write, Your style will always be tied to what you feel passionate about. writing flows more freely when you love your subject, and write in a way that is natural to you. It is always good to read novels that peek your interest, and admire the authors style of writing, but always be true to yourself . Then with patience and perseverance your style will soon have a unique voice that is all your own
