A Day--A Beautiful Day--in south Texas 5/25/2013 7:03:12 AM
Laredo doesn't have eventful weather, usually. But I'm making today's gorgeous weather a personal event... It's a gorgeous Saturday here in south Texas. Hard to believe that in San Antonio, just 150 miles north, they've had storms and rain.
We tend to take the weather for granted in Laredo, which really doesn't have scary events very often. Yes, occasionally hurricanes have come through, and the city floods easily because it's flat, and drainage is an ongoing issue. But tornadoes, severe thunderstorms--those are next to unheard of, here.
Yesterday at school, though, the impact of the devastation wreaked on Moore, OK was painfully apparent here. We had dark, dark skies, and some lightning and thunder. A little rain.
Almost immediately, parents began picking their children up early. Not the parents who habitually do that on a Friday, but parents who never do.
The implication was clear to me--if you think you're children are in any danger at all, you seek them out. The school might be safer than many of the old homes in our area--but Moore is a deep cut in America's soul.
Love your children--love family and friends. Continue praying for Moore and for all those affected by other tragedies as well.
And enjoy those beautiful weather days, every minute of them, even in places like Laredo where they sometimes seem mundane.
