Will White Supremacy Bury the #MeToo Movement? 3/1/2021 6:25:38 AM
Synonyms for supremacy create a cloud of dread when placed side-by-side with the aims and goals of the important #MeToo movement: dominance, supreme power, absolute rule, lordship, superiority. Does Trumpism threaten the achievements of gender equality and the elimination of sexual harassment and abuse? I've become interested in the unfortunate rise in the fantasy thinking of Trump's Republicans and their refusal to take a stand and defend a morally sound position on almost any critical democratic issue. Relative to an ongoing effort to eliminate sexual harassment and gender inequality, the quarrelsome and belligerent stance of white supremacists seems incompatible with a respect for women. How long will it be (or has it already happened?) before QAnon serves up yet another mind-boggling distortion of the truth? This time would it involve a #MeToo alien thought-control experiment designed - along with testicular implants of testosterone-sucking microchips that reduce men to slightly built 'girly' physical specimens - to eliminate beards, rage, a love of guns and stimulate sexual aggressiveness? In other words, do white supremacists ever acknowledge the value of the women in their lives? Or are these guys basically why Tarana Burke started the #MeToo movement in the first place? My personal position on promoting gender equality is to recognize the danger of false allegations of sexual harassment and temper the philosophy of 'believeallwomen' with a recommitment to the evidence in a case and the rule of law for conflicts between guys and gals in the workplace. Otherwise a confrontational posture by feminists in cases of potential sexual misbehavior will regress into the same mindless paranoia that controls the white supremacist movement.
