Does Kindle Vella have a secret they don't want you to know?
To start off, I'm not one to gaslight, or to give credence to a conspiracy theory that fills in blanks with speculation. Even if it's intelligently speculated. However, I just may have stumbled upon one.
On the 25th, I published the first three episodes of my scifi-fantasy series Cloak & Laser on Kindle Vella. I planned to write this as a series of books, but after doing some research, I feel like episodic series are the future of writing, whether we like it or not.
I posted in a few Facebook groups and have gotten a few reads. After not seeing it show up in the 'Recently Added' section on the Kindle Vella homepage, I decided to look it up in the scifi category.
I didn't expect it to be within the first forty pages of results, but when I got to page 41, it said, "Something went wrong." It wouldn't show me the results. I clicked the last page number at the bottom, only to receive the same message.
I thought this was odd, but I cleared my browser's cache, tried again, but same result. At this point I was already frustrated. Life has been hard lately, and my trigger is sensitive.
I tried getting help through their chat. The first person I talked to thought I was talking about a page in a book, and when the chat went idle, I left.
I immediately tried again with a different approach, only to be told I needed to contact Kindle Direct Publishing to get the help I needed. So, on to KDP help chat.
The lady was nice, but after she was gone for a while, she came back to tell me that she was on page 40, and that, that was the last page of results. She told me to try another browser, and so I tried Chrome, but same thing. I even tried my phone.
I told her that it shows me that there are over 1,500 pages of results. So, I'm at a loss. It's not my devices, or the browser, nor it's filled cache. You literally can't view any pages beyond the 40th. I've tried several categories with the same result.
Have you experienced this? Is there something else I'm missing? All I want is the same opportunity as all those writers that show up on pages 1–40. I know there has to be more than forty pages worth of results. Especially when, as you go through the pages, you'll notice that each page has a different number of results. Very odd yet again.
The lady told me that she would notify their team about this issue, but I'm not so convinced that it is a problem. I'm sure that they won't notify me if and when they fix the 'problem'.
What should my next course of action be? Could it be that, since I haven't bought any tokens that, that's why I get a limited experience?
I feel like the immortal words of Rodney Dangerfield fits here; "I get no respect."
