I invite comments, to find a meaning to my dream

Poem Artwork

The Dream

Pitch black, the middle of the night;

I woke up with a start, drenched in sweat

I had a bad dream, I thought

It was as if I was lying in a confined space

(I am claustrophobic, to say the least)

I was calling for help to be let out!

Upon a closer look,

I noticed, just next to me,

A nest of eagles,

The American Eagle,

And the Eagle held on its claws

A smoldering charcoal

A bad dream, I thought

Or, maybe not!

The fact that you're sweating makes me believe it wasn't a bad dream. As of the symbolism of the Eagle with the smoldering charcoal, it looks like Ed Phillips has some kind of intuition that I don't have. I think you can determine what that symbolism means more than I can.

I had a dream last week involving the character Allan Quatamein from the novel, King Solomon's Mines. I never read the book, and don't recall the movie. Still the dream had me composing a compelling poem using the character name, so I will try to re-create it for my poem this week. Wish me luck…

I have never had that dream, but I've had the feeling that we are losing our country to hopeless causes. The eagle and the smoldering charcoal say it better. Thanks for your thoughtful poem.
