If I Knew

I sometimes wonder what I’d do
Or what I’d have to say
If I somehow knew tomorrow
Was to be my final day

Would I share the news with loved ones?
Would I tell a trusted friend?
Or would I keep it to myself
And let my life come to its end?

Would I want to be with others?
Or would I rather be alone?
When I breathe my final breath
And begin my journey home

I would not want to see sadness
Happy smiles I’d rather see
So I would probably keep my last day
Just as normal as could be

I think I’d keep it to myself
And here’s the reason why
If people knew that I was leaving
They would want to say goodbye

Goodbye is not a word I like
Nor one I often say
When that day comes, I’ll wink and say
“Till we meet another day”

Scary thing to think about, but I must say you just found the right words!I have also thought about it many times and I do agree with every single line you wrote.
Every day is precious and could be the last one of your life... but you will never really lose the ones you love. You did a wonderful poem! *deeplyimpressed*

If I knew my loved ones were going to Heaven with me, I could "give it up" with peace and joyful anticipation.

My sentiments exactly, Jack. On the day I found out about my cancer, I made it my business to create happy memories with my family and keep life as normal as possible. That was six years ago, imagine the store of memories my kids have after six years.

I have often thought this , my friend.
I suppose we would pray alot, and love
our family more. Maybe mend a few fences that were broken on the way.
Excellent and thought
provoking.

Guess we have all thought about it. I never really come up with an answer but I guess a person could never know unless it happens. When my time comes I just want to go like my Grandpa did, peacefully in my sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

You are such a pensive person, exploring your heart and giving it a voice that makes reading you feel 'like home'.. you're so good at being positive with even the hardest subjects to think about.. just lovely, Jack. katy.
