MEAN STREETS
Across Woodward Avenue and McNichols Road are ladies of the night
Sharp cool Brothers with their game tight
A Cop cruiser slowly checks the scene
A scowl on their faces looking mean.
All activity stops to explore
A hustler fades as he eases inside a door
Trying his best not to be seen by getting out of sight
Knowing if caught jail is his plight.
He cannot escape destiny
As soon as he enters inside trouble is to be
The man he owes is waiting for his money and he explains with a stammer
When he sees the pistol and a dropping of the hammer.
Mean streets is a way of life
Filled with violence and strife
Some cannot sleep until
Some form of wickedness has been fulfilled.
A world in itself has been born
From the stroke of dusk till early morn
Eight-mile road with all its flare
Come and enjoy if you dare.
Before you make a choice
Make sure you have your voice
Strong, cruel and deep
If your money and life you want to keep.
Mean streets all across the land
Is like Custer’s Last Stand
You use all your firepower to no avail
And in the end fail.
Mean streets are you friend or foe?
Will you be the one who opens the door?
Mean streets, mean streets give me some slack
Take some of these daggers out of my back.
Downtown has begun to heal
With much joy it makes me feel
Mean streets your divorce of cruelty and strife
Mean streets your new image has given me new life.
