"Yet I have seen your spark in the dark and you / Have seen mine in answer..."
Transcendental Sonnet #1200: To Spread Our Wings and Fly
for Silke
In the evil we have suffered we have seen The distorted reflection of the good Which though like the sun shrouded by clouds has been There always if always misunderstood Nevertheless we have seen its perversion By aping darkness creating aversion Within us for the struggle of it all
Yet I have seen your spark in the dark and you Have seen mine in answer however small We seem we dream you are my star and I Have found in you the beautiful and the true Revealed in your clear blue eyes the clear blue skies Beckon to us to spread our wings and fly In the sunshine of that good which never dies
