A fear to freeze the blood within the veins In which it runs in panic through the night A deadly dread's ironic labor pains Where people all say it will be all right But it will not because it cannot be While reason sleeps where rulers have gone blind
In the "New American Century" My country lost its way then lost its mind What little light is left is scarcely seen And if it shines it seldom shines on me So you might never know now what I mean
You reading this might wonder who I was Who questioned in an unquestioning age Might even seek yet not find me because As a wanderer on a pilgrimage I was once here but I am long gone now
I feel a clinging desperation in this piece, as if the writer has given up on a part of himself because of something he hasn't gotten.
There is certainly much to complain about in this wretched world, and also much to fear, but when a writer can write with this kind of honesty, it is a moment, in my opinion, to rejoice!
Steve, your words paint an unhappy picture. Unhappy but to true. Where are the values of our forefathers? Have we lost the way? Alas, I believe we have. Very well written.
God Bless,
Lew

A very chilling yet deservedly inquisitive poem; a dual inquisition
about American integrity succumbing to irrationality if not in fact,
virtual insanity; alienating itself and people. The quandry
about anonynimity taking precedence to individualism or significance
is indeed alarmingly, but justifyingly conveyed here.
We all had better hope and pray...that this brilliant poets words
DO MATTER TO SOMEONE... They certainly do me. Awesome writing
