Lately when I answer my telephone Robots ask me rhetorical questions They hardly need me they chirp all alone Or accompanied by my suggestions That they go plug themselves or blow a fuse
A robot has rather little to lose
Which is actually a lot like me Although we have nothing to talk about I could chatter in answer endlessly I could purr politely or shriek and shout And none of it matters in any case
I like the unpredictability One finds within our moody human race Much better than the cold sterility Of rhetorical robots calling here Unrelieved by shades of humanity
Excellent poem, Steven, and I agree! There is nothing I find more irritating than one of those mechanical voices blathering on and on. Again, excellent poem!

You know what Andy Rooney said was a good way to tie them up? Say hold on, to which the robot will say, "I didn't understand," and repeat their question. Then lay your phone down and walk away while the robot chatters away. Before comes your dial tone and then that Beep beep beep sound. You hang up knowing you have stalled the automated system if only for a few moments. They are losing money because the robot does not know enough to hang up on you. LOL

A telephone is really not a must. You can pull the plug on it without commiting a crime. However, people are hooked to it carrying it wherever they go. So, so sad that our ear burns with the desire to not be alone. Don't you know that we are not alone when God is with us. lf
Yea I have to agree Steve that cold animated voice at the end of a line irritates the hell out of me at times. I often have to fight the urge to say rude and vulgar things to it and then leave mine enemies name instead of mine...just kiddding. Good one old buddy.
