my cat died and this is all I have of him

Freddie's Song

He was not like Garfield but like Noodles in Mutts
He was big and fat and cool but most likely nuts

He could have been carried up into the sky (they
Say) by that hawk we saw hanging around that day

Still he seems a thing to me far too solid for
Some snatching of such existential either / or
As talons of this interloper from the sky

And why have they spoken of "was" and not of "is"
When the most present of lives I have loved is his?

That fat cat Freddie Noodles is too tough to die!

Except... now he is gone: so I have to accept
That he ran out of luck now though always adept
At dashing out of difficulties twelve years long

Cats avoid large birds and were never meant to fly
Except... this one this time: but he lived to die strong

Whatever happened "you should see the other guy"
Is what people say if they had rather not say

He left me here alone: now how do I move on
In order to find him wherever he may be?
This moment he is more in this moment than me

He lived and loved and lost: so this is Freddie's song

Except... I know he won because he won my heart
No matter what happened no matter what or why
In death as in life we will not be far apart

That fat cat Freddie Noodles is too tough to die!
Except... (accept) this time: so this is Freddie's song

Sorry about Freddie, some cats don't live past 12, then some do live longer. My Seashore is 11 but going strong, an inside cat always so I hope she lasts long. My other one lasted til she was 19 years. I surely would miss Seashore if she died on me. I know you have memories and photos of Freddie that should help you keep his memory.

This is such a wonderful ode to Freddie, a beautiful soul. I can feel your pain, but also see the 'hope' that Freddie is in a better place 'over the rainbow bridge'.
