Meeting old friends around every corner
And making new friends in the in between
I have been walking too long looking down
To realize if you know what I mean
How in love I am with humanity
Whose communication is our birthright
The meaning behind all this vanity
Beyond such failure and futility
As cloud inward light as we slip from sight
At least I still have the ability
To get as to give that small human spark
We recognize between us in the dark
By which we humans navigate the night
I know I have come further than I know
Led by that small human spark and its glow
Caught like a faraway kiss blown to me
Warming in my heart long after we part
And this is what I love this time of year
Meeting old friends around every corner
And making new friends in the in between
Wherever you are I can feel you here
Long after we part warming in my heart
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
