I. Sunset
Sunset haunts yet my eyes want to rise
Seeing myself on the shelf of a cloud
Aloud in the silent sky
As another turn of the wheel goes by
And the sun goes down uptown
And down as back and forth across the dark
It is I who am the spark
I am the sun because I am the one
All I have and all I need to be
Not alone I am with me
Myself and I and in good company
Being who can do this now
Somehow and it will be surprising when
Like Icarus I fall but rise again
To be nothing if not to be
The phoenix has nothing on me
II. Tough but Not Enough
The tougher they talk
The more afraid they are
I can tell
Those who would judge me
Who chose to begrudge me
Would do well
To learn the longer
They resist the stronger
I will be
They bluster and balk
Persisting I insist
Like a star
Tough but not enough
Too frightened to be free
Scared of me
III. Turning Forward
When I pray I say "please no more trouble" for
I have had enough nor need I any more
Then it comes anyway but unlike before
I know what to look forward to when behind
Me is the fear I lost when it cost my mind
Something lost but found that I am forward bound
What was is no more now for then has gone by
How I live on when because I will not die
Till good and ready still then I hold steady
Turning but not turning back learning as I
Turn that forward is the only way I learn
Making the best of it as I take my turn
Turning I learn by trouble now and then
But learning I turn forward then again
