Laughing Last

for Franziska

"Und webt in ewigem Geheimnis
Unsichtbar sichtbar neben dir"

I

A letter from Social Security
Has a cathartic effect on me

I got one but everything is OK
They said when I called them anyway
And that they would call back another day
Ask routinely about me again
But please not to worry and until then

Report any changes like if I
Inherit a fortune or if I die

Wary of a scary letter but
Better now somehow and no matter what
My misfortunate fortune is gone
But fortunately for me I go on
Though I am mad being glad to be

But letters from Social Security
Have a cathartic effect on me

II

Once we evolved fists
We started making lists
Who to be afraid
Of and who to be made
Enemies of these
Enforcers at the ends
Of losing our friends

We are our enemies
But they are us too
As we do as we do
One and another
Fighting with each other

What love has made clear
Made otherwise by fear

III

Swaggering bully-boys lay down the law
With frozen hearts that will never thaw
Until like some of us someday they may
Look at themselves in another way
But they dance as puppets for donors now
Nothing trickles down but cruel tricks
And so we have to vote them out somehow
Our time has come and I think they know

They change the locks on the ballot-box when
They can and they think they can again
They do everything they can think of to
Discourage the rest of us and do
To keep us down from voting them out but
Though trickled-down on by politics
We are who can do this no matter what
Our time has come and they have to go

Up to shenanigans to keep us down
We have to run their circus out of town

IV

Seeing us appear
Involved in all the fuss
Of evolving us
Devolving to our shame
The fist is to blame

But when the fist unfolds
And another holds
Unfolding as friends then
Evolving again
We go on as we came
Being as we are
Evolving pugilists

Unfolding our fists
Together come this far

V

I feel I have succeeded
Transcending when I needed
To by doing as I do
Resisting then insisting
On being now persisting
Incoincidentally
Being transcendentally

Getting here from then to now
Seeing how from now somehow
Being as I am as who
Made it this far more or less
Being crazy all the way
And yet being anyway
Being a success I guess

Better now at being me
Than how I have been before
Having less but being more
Understanding finally
Letting go let me go free
Wondering if I should be
Answering the question yes

Being a survivor of
Past fear laughing last for love

You have said some profound things in this group of poetry that we all need to pay attention to.

I think being crazy all the way is the only way to go. Thanks for a great journey. Enjoyed very much.

Happy Holidays...

I find it interesting the way you weave multiple ways of describing a situation but all coming to the same conclusion. Cool!

Love ya!
