Chain of Being Surviving yesterday Today still alive The struggle to survive Striving strong in me Surviving I arrive Learning the hard way Returning turning in Not away to be More now for having been Arriving today As a survivor of Survivors who came And went but meant for love Earned what they learned and Turning in not away Came to understand To be is to get to Know how to let go Of not to be now so They were as they knew Chose and made their mistakes But those were the breaks Having made mistakes too Now is how I know That they had what it takes To be having been Who survived by learning To arrive turning Not away but in when Turning into who Surviving arrived then And lent me their name Who sent me when they went To mean what they meant Between then and again And I am like they Were and who are to come A link in a chain Of being to become And to overcome Knowing who I come from Going until gone Knowing life will go on Striving on its way Surviving yesterday Arriving today Steven Curtis Lance
