The stars are astonishing
As if to be admonishing
Me I should look up so I could see
How they would astonish me

Sparks through the dark of confusion
Reality through the illusion

Wondering I lift my eyes
And understanding realize
How they do now to see you and I
And everyone as one under the sky

Admonished by our stars to be
Our astonishing reality

The stars are actually an illusion. The light that reaches our eyes and "twinkles" because of atmospheric distortion, from the nearest star took between four and five years to reach our eyes. So what we are seeing is already more than four years before, so it doesn't match what is actually happening on the star, "right now."

Some of the explosions of stars that have been seen by the naked eye in history actually happened tens of thousands of years before and the light was just reaching the earth. If a nearby star four or five light years away exploded, we wouldn't know it for that long and would suddenly be fried by radiation when the blast finally reached us.
