Splat

for Jon, Maria, and Franchesca Baker

I thought how a spider
Sat down beside her
That was him in this case
Because he was me

When unsuspectingly
Unwary I sat

Writing poetry where
Climbing up my chair
It invaded my space
Climbing up my hair

When it reached my bald spot
I knew it was there

I had been unwary
Of spiders then but
That was very scary
So now I am not

A satisfying splat
Though and that was that

Poor spider! If one crawls on me outside, I walk over to my red roses and get it on them. It's those awful big spiders around here by the Mentor Marsh that want to come in for the fall!! They are possessed!
LOL!! 'Enjoyed!!

I had to laugh. The bald spot is certainly a good surface to give a spider a splat. Based on where you're from, I hope it wasn't a black widow that had been living in your beard.

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
