Coyote Moonset

The coyotes dropped by
Stopping off at my
Hi-Desert hideaway

Where two dogs and I
Sang with them at moonset
Sang not to forget
But let it go its way

Let it set behind
A hill so we could find
The spine of the sky

When I could see bright eyes
Sparking like fireflies
Across the dark of night
I could feel hope rise

Sharing their sacrament
Of where the moon went
But was not meant to stay

Keep an open heart
The coyotes remind
Us find us a part
Of us and not apart

Keep an open mind
When though the moon is gone
Hope knows it goes on

Let go but come what may
The coyotes say
Glad to sing the moonset
To bring the moonrise

And I am glad I met
What I recognize
As what hope knows tonight

Glad to realize
Those coyotes are right

I love this poem and the picture. A little playful. A little serious.

You're right. Coyotes own the night.

During the evening I love to listen to the coyotes surrounding expansive Mentor Marsh as they sing along with the other small creatures in it. Such a symphony! I enjoyed this poem a lot!

Love ya!

Jane
