Surprising Tomorrow Having had my feelings hurt I am wary Of the shenanigans of politics That used to be silly but then got scary Dealing with the unfeeling and their tricks The older I get the less stupidity I can tolerate when it gets very Stupid fatefully maybe too late for me But it will get better for having been What it takes not to make this mistake again One way or another ultimately By taking note and making time to vote I Try to make it smarter before I go Until after this stupidity goes by Trying not to give up but lying low To live up to what I live for or to die Haunted to be what I wanted to be Outsmarting what hurt me about to be free Midmorning slips into midafternoon A crisp fall day getting crisper by the hour Surprised to see a rising quartermoon Riding up the sky to preside over our Nightly starshow that might be starting soon When a fall day slips away after all and We make a wish then and we start again Startled by a falling star I understand What we all wonder about now and then By the light of this fallen star in my hand A moment ago it was yesterday Arriving at midnight between light and light Fall slips into ever-after-all when The moment comes tomorrow becomes today Surprising tomorrow rising tonight Steven Curtis Lance
