I Wish I Knew Better Stories

I wish I knew better stories but
Nobody ever told me anything
When things happened then that they did not
Ever want me to know were happening

But whatever happened is haunting
Me wanting to know about secrets kept
That crept into silence while I slept
About what went on out there before dawn

Though I am old and out of my head
I wish I knew better wish I knew more
Stories that I never knew before
They never told me and now they are dead

Keeping me innocent was the thing
They wanted but they haunted me instead
From where they went and took what they knew
Was fated for me later to go through

Until I can forget about what
I never knew but will never be gone
All I can do now is to go on
To be who I am whatever I do

In our house. I was and still am, the last to know anything, but then again, ignorance is bliss.

When we are very young, it is up to our parents to provide us with the essentials for our life to come. If we don't know that history, we may have to repeat it.

And it looks like your parents were either ashamed, or trying to change history, by not telling you the stories of their experience. I do recall my father telling a lot of stories, but coming up short when it came to something that would change my life forever.
