2020 Both Ways

Though long ago I went out of my mind
Sent out here without since falling through
A crack in society all the way
Down and out my bourgeois days behind
Looking up from down from the outside in
I can see how it is so I do

An unusual kind of humankind
Fated not to fit in anyway
Not that I ever really wanted to
I never meant to be 65
Intending not to end up old and grey
But surviving then now I arrive
To see what happens to me if I stay

Grateful for a place where I could find
Myself out here looking in now and then
To see it looks crazy in there too
Not only crazy but fearful and mean
Haunted by some nightmares coming true

Through the crack the back of 2019
Seems to me like a good thing to see
On a New Year's Eve to be my birthday
With a crazy Christmas in between
For those in there if not out here for me
With my odd ways without holidays

In my scarcity or in their plenty
For the trouble we took or have seen
Both look both ways to see 2020
For what the future has to unwind
As it puts the real in reality

Between now and never as ever
At as good a time as any to be
May we do better than we have done
Arriving at the when of whenever
Survivors and I know I am one
Out here but in there too come New Year's Day
May we be better than we have been

May we see better from out or from in
Between us to see 2020 both ways

Let us hope that after your birthday on the cusp of the year that we all have 20/20 vision that makes us see mostly one way, the good one, in the future.

BTW, I heard recently that only half of the men in this country make it to 75. So, you've still got 10 years to go before you have overcome the majority.
