The two of us find
Us to be of one mind
Whether in or out
Of it two of a kind
Finding out about
Who we are it feels good
To be understood
The universe knows us
Inside out but we
Find reason hard to see
Mindful it shows us
Through the worst of it to
Make the best come true
For the rest of the way
Our best anyway
To come to see us as
The universe has
One and one another
Each of each other
Reaching out in the dark
Each to each a spark
A falling star may rise
Again by surprise
When having awoken
Unexpectedness
Spoken by unspoken
Voices out of reach
The universe says yes
Now I realize
How I could not get through
All this without you
Having opened my eyes
To the otherwise
In the after all of
It all to find love
At all and yet I do
Together whether
We ought to be or not
Better together
Than not is what we got
From being apart
But together by heart
Knowing in the night
When our minds are not right
Nothing comes between
Us knowing what we mean
The hard way can teach
Us to reach for us each
For the other one
Here we are unbroken
Wondering but then
Understanding again
Dawning like the sun
How the spell is spoken
Not to be broken
Awoken spoken for
Broken now no more
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
