It was on Christmas Eve of all days
Bowser helped me and we buried Marisol
Standing up facing east to always
Under the snow we let go and said goodbye
Knowing at least we had each other
But rabbits came when life went on after all
Not that I blame them for moving in
With the sand more forgiving there than elsewhere
Of the living than the dead had been
I laid down a sheet of plywood on the ground
Over the place just in case back then
But nature as always found a way around
And there are rabbits living down there
Giving birth in the earth a family grows
Life giving death a breath of fresh air
Due to what we got through then Bowser and I
Have gotten to know one another
Reaching out having seen the other dog die
Each an other-begotten brother
I call him Brother Dog now and he knows why
Sniffing down the rabbit hole he knows
Life goes on and this is how it goes
Life goes on and you had to bury Marisol at the time when the ground was freezing. So it goes that you ended up digging holes where rabbits can make their nests and can raise families.
