Unbroken Promise



Still alive at 65 I wonder
If anything means anything but
I understand the sky I stand under
Better than when I tried not to be

Though I died to know better I did not
Until I lived to appreciate
Standing out here like a Joshua tree

Under the sun I wonder but know
The sky understands me naturally
The sun shines down on me and I grow
Without hesitation too late to wait

When reality feels like a kiss
Then I appreciate this is my fate
Anything means anything like this

In the in between of this is it I
See it means now is what not to miss
How it went on even when I forgot

I get this is it and so I go
On going knowing its philosophy
As spoken by coyote and crow
Awoken to its unbroken promise

In this invitation of the sky
This visitation of the sun I see
How to be before it gets too late

Still wondering but understanding why
Not will be why after all now for me
