Poem Artwork

We live in a world of "what if"
A world of dreams unrealized
"If only" begins many statements
Sadness rains down broken dreams
Storm clouds gather 'round
Building a force to struggle free
Reaching out to grasp that golden ring
Only to open an empty hand
Swept away within sacred memories
Fragmented pieces that lie under foot
Fear of waking to deafening emptiness
Words upon paper sodden with despair
Of a future that may never be
Tormented by the taste of desire
Cloaked within arms that held tight
Fierce kisses that burn the flesh
Hunger churns to become as one
What if this day never ended
If only we had more time
Would we surrender to circumstance
Torn hearts left unshielded
More than distance separates
Can you hear that melancholy music
A single note haunting your memory
Tugging at your heart strings
Waiting to become a whole song
One that will sing in the breeze
Forever present within your mind
What if it could
If only it would

If only it would.
