Traveling Man
By Bill Cottringer
When I was young and foolish—
Thinking I needed to try it all,
Always being right
And arguing ‘till death;
But this was too simple.
So I wandered some more;
Creating chaos,
Making more problems
Not finding any cures;
Talking more and listening less;
Lots of bruises and broken bones.
Finally I woke up
To the need for simple—
Working hard,
Sleeping well,
Eating right,
Exercising some,
Playing for fun,
Having friends
And loving my wife.
What time’s left over,
Can go to towards the rest
Because there ain’t none.
