 Words from Pearly-Girl

By
Dog Dad

Now if I could Talk,
This is what I’d say,
Even though dogs,
Don’t use words:
Thanks,
For letting me rescue you,
Thinking you were rescuing me;
Thanks,
For watching my diet,
With the kibble, treats and goat’s milk,
While sneaking in,
Some bacon, hot dogs and ribeye;
And thanks,
For all the fun adventures—
The winter snow romps,
The summer swims and forest hikes;
Also Thanks,
For all the love and affection,
With hugs, kisses and belly rubs.
Now I am not complaining,
But let’s re-consider a few things—
Like the frequent hair cuts,
The dry shampoo baths,
And the uphill hiking;
As you know,
We aren’t getting any younger,
Besides, we don’t need the stress.
And, one other thing,
Not meaning to dogpile on you,
But about chasing the mail truck,
Barking at other dogs,
And not wanting to ride in the car,
Especially during a car wash;
Some good advice—Get over it!
But I do miss my 6p greeting routine—
The jumping howling, tail-wagging and licking,
But having you here home all day,
Makes up for that minor gripe.
Now we both know,
We won’t be around forever,
So, in the meantime,
Your winks and my paw,
Will always be our clue,
As both our old-soul eyes,
Let us Know,
This isn’t our first rodeo.

Ron--It seems the only things she doesn't like are: (1) the long grooming sessions (2) going through the car wash in the car, (3) any other dog coming anywhere near our yard when she is on yard guard duty, and (4) sitting in the car too long if Mom has to do too many errands when I am not at home. The Vet visits aren't a problem at all.

I think her hesitancy in not wanting to ride in the car has to do with association with something unpleasant earlier that she remembers, lost with all the fun adventures I take her on. Also when we rescued her from a lady in Portland, it was a long 4-hour drive back that she may worry about re-occurring. She is an extremely sensitive and "needy" at times. Tight now she is lying on the Poppa-san chair with my wife chain on my upstairs balcony overlooking our river and mountains. Very peaceful.

Love the way you translated your dog's thoughts. And what a beautiful girl she is! Obviously she has a few things to say about how you are treating her that are undoubtably true, some good, some bad.

I would venture to say that the reason that Pearly-Girl is unwilling to ride in the car may be her fear of going to the veterinarian's office. My Jazz loved to ride in the car and bark fiercely at any threat that he saw or smelled as we moved down the road. But as we approached the veterinarian's office, his personality would turn into shaking fear. Only to be renewed when we returned home and he was out of the clutches of those evil annual shots and probings.
